Yulia Tymoshenko worried that Governors withholding gas payment are putting independence at risk

Ukraine's energy independence is undermined by governors who don't pay for gas, stated Yulia Tymoshenko, the prime minister of the country.

She determined to give instructions to the governors concerned in terms of this issue according to the result of the meeting.

Kyiv, for example, will suffer a debt of up to 1 billion hryvnias to Kyivenerho. Where will the money come from? Actions must be taken for this. Debt can be undermining and dangerous for the energy independence of Ukraine.

Addditionally, many oblasts were also accused of considerable drops in gas production in 2008. Of them, the Ivano-Frankivsk oblast ranks the first with a production decrease of 21.5%. Local government was to blame for this drop. The governors as well as mayors of cities in this oblast were called on to take immediate actions to control the situation from worsening.
